Domestic Violence

This is a rather fragile topic that I ve been thinking of writing about...
Growing up in this part of the world, there has always been the notorious couple down the street that fight all the time or a church member that always has a swollen face but it was always shoved aside as a private family matter. Even the police dismisses such cases as family matter.
I had a neighbor who's mother was so terrified of the dad, even the kids too, the woman was a full time house wife and when the man is leaving every morning, he locks the gate from outside so the woman couldn't get out, i can remember seeing her a couple of times jumping out the fence to go out then hurry to jump back in before he returns. Did she leave him? No.
We all prolly know someone who is a victim somewhere but being made to believe it their fault. I haven't been in this situation before so I can't judge anyone, all i know is that they need help.
The news recently is filled with domestic violence cases with some of the victims loosing their lives, now some of these victims cried out and tried to leave but then everyone comes begging them to return, some stay and say they are doing it for the kids, some say they can't fend for their kids on their own and so many numerous excuses...
I believe self empowerment can help alot of people step out of this kind of situations and please watching stuffs like fighting parents growing up does more harm than good to the children. Dead people don't raise children.

Corporal Punishments in Schools

School Corporal punishment can be simply described as causing deliberate pain or discomfort in response to undesired behavior by students in school either by striking the student across the buttocks, hands or body using a rattan cane, slippers or leather straps; or less commonly it could also include spanking or smacking with open hand.

This practice was practiced all over the world ages ago in the name of discipline but it has been gradually outlawed in almost all developed countries because it was strongly opposed by medical and psychological societies, along with human rights groups who argue that physical punishment is ineffective in the long term, interferes with learning, leads to antisocial behavior and mental distress. Also its considered a form of violence that breaches children's rights. (Wikipedia).

This article is narrowed down to our Nigerian system. We grew up thinking this is normal because it happens all around us. In fact, some students are flogged so bad that the have bruises all over their bodies and nothing is done about it, we call it discipline. Again, being a very religious country, its prolly going to be here for a long time because it has a religious backing. There is part of the Christian bible which states "Spare the rod, and Spoil the child". This seems to be the highest justification to this act.
Most kids in Nigeria grew up being flogged almost every week, while some were corrected and grew up to become better people, a lot of others could not be controlled. They were flogged so much that they were no longer afraid of anything so the rebel and do whatever pleased them. Some begin to skip school because they don't want to be punished till they eventually drop out. They join terrible gangs and end up worse off.
Kids and teenagers are probably the worst set of people to deal with but I believe there should be other forms of punishments other than flogging them like cows and leaving terrible scars on them.

I saw a video of an American teenage girl sometime ago being dragged off a classroom by a full grown police officer and the world went crazy over this video because it involved a white man and a black teen, a lot of Nigerians including me complained so bitterly only for another video to surface online today of an adult male teacher beating up a female student and I was surprised to see the reactions on Nigerian media. A lot of people blamed the girl, they said things like "from this video its obvious this girl is sturbbon and rude"  "she has the guts to drag the cane with teacher" "When we were in school, its was normal". Though some people kicked against it but the negative comments were just too much.

I am of the opinion that Corporal punishment should be discontinued, because it does more harm than good. Some people might disagree but that's ok. I hope that this will become a reality in Nigeria some day soon. Also, evidence has showed  no reported increase in disciplinary problems in schools following the elimination of corporal punishment.

Serena Williams Pregnant or Not?

So the internet got buzzing yesterday when 23 time Glam Slam winner Serena Williams seemly announced that she is 20weeks pregnant in a snapchat picture spotting a tiny bump. I was super stoked by this news as I thought she looked amazing for a 5month pregnant woman, but the part that stunned me the most is that if my calculations are right she won the Austrian open while she was about 8weeks pregnant... Superwoman anyone?

Anyways further researched showed that the Athlete deleted this picture off her snap a few hours later leaving her fans guessing and confused. Her, her finance Alexis Ohanian and her reps are all mute on this situation.

Body Odour: Tips that work

Has body odour being a constant downer in your life?
Have you wondered why you can't seem to shake it off?

Well to treat a condition, one needs to understand what it is and the causes.

Body odour is a skin condition whereby the body emits very unpleasant smell mostly due to excessive sweating.
However sweat by itself is virtually odourless but when microscopic bacteria that live naturally on the skin mix with sweat, they multiply quickly and raise quite a stink.

BELOW ARE AMAZING TIPS THAT WORK

HYGIENE
-Shower atleast twice daily using antiseptic or antibacterial soaps, this not only washes away sweat but it reduces the number of bacteria on your skin.
-Towel off properly,be sure to dry off after a shower using a very clean and dry towel, especially areas you sweat alot. Its harder for bacteria to breed on dry skin.
-Maintain a super clean wardrobe, promptly remove sweaty clothes or socks.
-Shave, Shave and Shave

INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH
-Use deodorants, deodorant  do not reduce sweating but it masks the bacteria smell.
-Use antiperspirants, this contains Aluminum chloride which reduces sweating.
-Use deodorant powders in your shoes if you tend to have foot odour.

DIET
What you eat affects your body odour. Certain foods can be contributory factors to body odour. Cut down on foods that makes you sweat more eg hot pepper and spicy foods like garlic, onions.

ANTIBIOTICS
This should be of the last resort. Since body odour is caused by bacteria, and antibiotics are used to kill bacteria, This can be used to eradicate body odour.
Am no advocate for self medication so i wont mention any antibiotics on this post. See your doctor.

Note: Tropical antibiotics should only be used when other antiseptics are ineffective because they are associated with a greater risk of bacterial resistance.

Meningitis Outbreak: Free Vaccination Across the Country

Owing to the recent heat wave in the country there has been series of cases of Meningitis mostly in the Northern states amongst them are Zamfara, Niger, Sokoto, Kebbi and even the Federal capital territory.

Two thousand, nine hundred and ninety seven suspected cases of CSM have been reported in 16 states, of which 146 have been laboratory-confirmed. About 336 deaths have also been recorded.

500,000 doses of the Meningitis C vaccine has been distributed across these affected states and residents are advised to walk into the nearest primary health center to get vaccinated for free

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said additional 823,970 doses of Meningitis C vaccines are expected from the United Kingdom (UK) to support vaccination activities in other affected states.

NCDC is collaborating with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency and other partners to tackle the outbreak.

Big Brother Naija: Who gets saved Tonight?

 image from twitter

For the first time in Big brother history, the housemates will be given a chance to save one of the nominated housemates up for possible eviction this week. Biggie has also introduced lots of twists this season that got mixed reviews from the viewers.

Four housemates up for eviction are Bally, Debbie-Rise, Marvis and Tboss. The show so far haven't gone as predicted from the onset, theres been a lot of twists and the housemates have faced all sorts of Emotions.

With Less than 2 weeks to the finale and 6 housemates left, the show is more hitted as the housemates can already feel the grand prize around the corner.
We already know our first 2 finalists Bisola and Efe who seem to be the crowd favorite at this point, one more housemate will secure the 3rd spot tonight leaving the remaing 3 up for eviction to battle for the 2 spots left.

My theory:

With the alliances formed so far, its almost clear to me that Marvis has her name on the 3rd spot (could be wrong). Anyways, I see Bally in the finale too meaning either Tboss or Debbie will be leaving this sunday.
The crowd seem to favour both Efe and Bisola which I feel might work against them in the finale as their votes might be divided leaving a neutral underdog to cat away with prize. Most people are so sure of who is going to win but I still believe is anyones game to win at this point.

I really hope the finale wont be too predictable, I can imagine the shock on people's faces when Debbie Rise or Tboss or even Marvis is declared winner haha!

I guess we have to wait and see how it plays out, meanwhile a friend of mine placed a bet with someone that Tboss would win this game right from the beginning... we are watching.

What are your thoughts? who is your Favorite housemate?

...And we are back

This is a pretty funny story,

Having been writing, travelling and researching a lot lately, I realized that I ve been terrible at documenting because I either misplace them or they get corrupted. Then I came up with the idea of creating a channel or online site where I not only get to save my works but I get to share them with people.

I thought about this for a while and then I decided to start with blogging and later a YouTube channel (maybe my children will have something to laugh about) lol.

Anyways, while trying to create a blog, I remembered that I once started a blog a few years ago which was doing ok. I couldn't continue because of reasons beyond my control at the point (didn't try hard enough).

I typed in the blog name and there it was, I was so excited to read my posts from back then. I wrote with so much determination and confidence, I couldn't be more proud. The comments too were encouraging and I couldn't help but wonder how far I would have gone with that as I was clearly motivated by our very own most successful blogger.
Then the inspiration came back, I don't have to create a new blog, I will simply work on improving this one.

What to Expect?

In addition to my own attempts at writing, expect breaking news, entertainment, fashion, inspirational posts, tourism posts, personal and general life style...in other words, theres no pattern.
This is a journey of self discovery for me, so I will post as the spirit leads.
